Have you ever had a spiraling thought lead you into fear, doubt, confusion, insecurity, or feeling hopeless? This has happened to me many times throughout my life. My thoughts have often failed me, they have disappointed me, and they have let me down. Thoughts are fleeting and often misleading and untrue. We can’t allow them to determine our future because they will cripple us in what we are called to do if we give them that authority. The word gives us clear instruction as to where we should put our hope and our trust.
Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Where we place our trust will determine the course of our lives. Our own understanding is based on our limited view and will ultimately lead us astray. His understanding is based on His knowledge of the full picture and will lead us into His perfect plan for our lives and for His glory. Our good Father has the best plans for His children.
If our feelings are like the wind, when we trust them, we will be easily swayed. When we trust our understanding, we will be easily uprooted. When we trust His word, we will remain planted in the midst of the storms and circumstances of life that try to derail us from our eternal destiny.
His word never changes and never fails. Trusting it and living according to it results in abundant life. When truth is the firm foundation you build your life on, you will not be shaken. As you trust Him, He will be faithful to carry you through the highs and lows. He does not leave those who follow Him unequipped for the things they will face on this earth. His strength will meet you where you are weak and He will sustain you where you are tempted to quit.
Isaiah 46:4 says, “Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
Let your confidence rest in the promise that He made you and He will carry you. He will sustain you when your strength is growing weary. He will rescue you in times of trouble and in times of need. His ways are higher and greater than your own understanding. Settle your heart on the promise that as you trust and follow Him with all of your heart, He will lead you right where you need to be according to His perfect plan and purpose for His glory all of the days of your life.
Let your wholehearted trust in Him be the foundation of your life when the storms of thoughts and circumstances you face throughout your life try to destroy your faith. As you lean on Him and His understanding, you will remain steadfast in truth.
A heart that sincerely trusts in Him cannot be moved by feelings because its roots are deep in the truth. The most abundant life you will live is a life of wholehearted trust in His word which will never fail or disappoint you.
I pray these words bring hope to you.
HE CARRIES YOU. <3
What is an area of your life that you have trusted your own understanding more than the truth of His word? Where have you learned your own understanding?
Look up a scripture reference that you can cling to, speak out, and apply to your life when your own thoughts overwhelm you.
For deeper study, journal about exchanging your own understanding for His with the help of His truth. Ask for His help in doing so.
